1. You will need an active COMP128 V1 SIM incl. a valid contract
2. You will need a SIM reader/writer (Infinity USB Unlimited recommended, also because it has two slots, one for regular smartcards, one for SIMs)
3. You will need a Silvercard
4. You will need the already mentioned two programs (Woron Scanner, etc.)
5. Basic computer skills are necessary.

Instructions:

1. Get the required hardware and software: An Infinity USB unlimited SIM reader/writer, a silvercard, SIM-EMU 6.01, and WoronScan 1.09
2. Get the IMSI, Ki of your carrier using WoronScan (I will call them IMSI-b, Ki-b)
3. Use SIM-EMU and create 2 files (1 Flash and 1 EEPROM) using the ICCID of the AT&T sim (ICCID-a), IMSI-b and Ki-b
4. Then use these 2 files to create a sim using the infinity usb unlimited reader/writer
5. Put this sim into a normal unlocked phone and make some calls/receive calls/data services
6. Then use SIM-EMU to change the IMSI of the original Flash file to IMSI of AT&T sim (IMSI-a)
7. Again write the silvercard with the new flash and eeprom files
8. Put this sim into the Iphone
9. Activate using the Cingular method.

 

Activating your new sim:

Step 1.

Make sure your iPhone is docked and charged.

Step 2.

From iTunes, make sure you have a backup of your phone and all settings (if you want to keep them). Simply connect the iPhone to your computer and iTunes will sync your iPhone. Automatically backed-up information includes text messages, notes, call history, contact favourites, sound settings, widget settings, certain network settings, and other preferences.

Step 3.

Press CTRL ALT DEL which will open up the Windows Task Manager. Click on the "Processes" tab and ensure both iTunes.exe and iTunesHelper.exe are not running. If they are, then highlight their names one at a time and click the "End Process" button.

Just click Yes at the pop up warning.

Step 4.

Make sure the iPhone is on.

Step 5.

Create a folder called phonedmg at your root (C:\) level. Click the "Start" button then click "Run...".

Type: cmd and click the "OK" button.

You are now using what Windows calls the command shell. Type: cd\ then press enter/return. You should see the C:\> prompt.

Type: mkdir phonedmg then press enter/return.

Step 6.

Download the software restore file from Apple. Once the file is downloaded, most browsers may automatically decompress the file and leave a folder called iPhone1,1_1 on your desktop. If your browser did not do this, and you have an .ipsw file instead, then rename the extension to .zip and decompress it yourself.

To rename the file you can just click on the file once, and then once again (do this slowly) and the name of the file will become editable showing you its full name.

If the file does not end in ".ipsw", you'll have to turn on file extension display by going to the Tools menu -> Folder Options -> View tab -> and then uncheck the box for "Hide extensions for known file types" then click the "Apply" button.

Right-click the iPhone update file and choose "Rename". Give it the ".zip" extension and press enter, and confirm that you want to change the extension.

Click "Yes" at the pop up warning screen.

Now double-click the file to open its contents. Extract the contents to the phonedmg folder.

Step 7.

Place the software restore files you downloaded from Apple (the iPhone1,1_1 folder) into the phonedmg folder. Do not place the whole folder in here, just what's in the folder.

Step 8.

Download the "Jailbreak" program. Put this file into the phonedmg folder.

Step 9.

Download the iPhoneInterface (v 0.3.3) program. Put this file into the phonedmg folder.

Step 10.

Download the iTunesMobileDevice.dll. Put this file into the phonedmg folder. You have now completed all the initial preparatory steps needed to mod the iPhone. You will never have to repeat these steps, provided you do not delete anything in the phonedmg folder.

Step 11.

Click the "Start" button and select "Run...".

Enter the following in the text box: cmd   Then click "OK".

The command shell window will open. Type the following: cd\phonedmg   Then press enter/return.

Now type: jailbreak and press enter/return. Jailbreak will run, and look for the iPhone. You should now plug your iPhone into the computer.  Note: once you Jailbreak, you don't have to again unless you switch PCs.

Jailbreak should say Sending Files... You'll then be prompted to hold the POWER and HOME buttons for 25 seconds. The phone will automatically shut down, and then restart while you do this.

The iPhone will restart in recovery mode and display this graphic.

It will then take about a minute for the program to do its thing, so don't do anything until you see a C:\phonedmg> prompt like in my screen capture. Keep this window open, you aren't done with it yet.

Step 12.

This step is primarily for those people who have already bypassed activation to use their iPhone as an iPod with Wi-Fi only. You will need to deactivate your phone for this process. Everyone else can skip ahead to Step 13.

In the command shell window, type: iphoneinterface and press enter/return. A prompt for iPhone:/# should appear.

Next type: deactivate and press enter/return. Confirmation will appear. Keep this window open.

Step 13.

Now go to this site.   Right click the iPhoneActivation.pem link at the top of the page and save it to your C:\phonedmg directory and keep your browser open on this page.

Make sure after downloading this file that the extension is still .pem and not .txt.

Step 14.

Back at the command shell window where iphoneinterface is still running, type these three commands:

cd /System/Library/Lockdown/

putfile /System/Library/Lockdown/iPhoneActivation.pem

This will copy over a modified iPhoneActivation.pem file that is required for this to work. Then type: exit

Step 15.

Now you need to find your iPhone's Device ID. This can be found in Windows Vista at:
C:\Users\username\AppData\roaming\Apple Computer\Lockdown

For You XP users it can be found at:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\Lockdown

The Device ID is a hexadecimal string, 40 characters long. It should be the only .plist file there. If you can not find this file it is probably being hidden by the system. Go to the menu bar and click "Tools" then select "Folder Options..." then go to the "View" tab and scroll down and check the radio button next to "Show hidden files and folders" then click the "Apply" button.

As for the other two numbers, the IMEI and ICCID are found by pressing the "i" button when the iPhone asks for activation.

Go back to your web browser and fill in the Device ID, IMEI, and ICCID fields and click the "Generate" button. Once the process is complete, right-click "download a custom activator v0.2", and save it to your phonedmg folder.

Step 16.

Go to your phonedmg folder and double click the 40 character long .exe program you saved in Step 15.

The program will dispaly details about your iPhone, and ask if it's ok to continue. When you click "Yes", it then looks for the iPhone and activates it.

You will then get this pop up telling you your iPhone is activated.

If your phone is still not activated, then you either did something wrong in these instructions or your SIM is not compatible. You could try going to your provider or calling them to have them replace your SIM with a modern one. Of course you should not tell them that you want this new SIM specifically for using in the iPhone.
